Chilli Dippers on tour to Hythe

Photo 16-10-2021, 11 04 22.jpg

Today was our inaugural Chilli Dipper session. One of the most challenging things about the end of the training season is that we’ve spent every weekend together and then suddenly there’s a bit of a void. Don’t get me wrong, a weekend off can be quite nice, but I miss all the familiar faces, so it was lovely to be back.

The focus is very different to our normal training sessions with the emphasis on fun, camaraderie and maintaining some acclimatisation over the winter. Anything between a dip and 45 minutes was absolutely fine. No Mandi minutes. No pushing limits. Just fun,

It was lovely to meet some new faces too, we hope to see you and even more new faces next month.

How was it for you?

Success in the channel

I know this isn’t the regular training update blog, but since I wrote the last one of the season there have been successes in the channel that deserve to be called out In fact, at the time of writing there is a soloist making their way across. Whilst not someone who trained with us, it’s definitely worthy of a mention!!

  • MENCAP MARVELs - Mark & the Mermaids for their channel relay on 8th October, including 2021 DCTers Nikki Pope, Samantha Farrow & Emma France in a time of 14 hours 21 minutes

We’d also like to say a MASSIVE congratulations to Chloe McCardel for stepping into the record books again by becoming the person who’s completed the most channel solos a staggering 44 in total, surpassing Alison Streeter’s Queen of the Channel record. With seven of these channel solos completed this year, that’s true grit and determination.

Dates for your Diary

Monthly Chilli Dips

Our next Chilli Dip is on Saturday 20th November and the location will be Ramsgate, so we’re swapping the pebbles for sand 😊. Should the weather forecast indicate that Ramsgate isn’t suitable, we’ll use our back up location of Dover.

Seminars / Webinars

I’m in the process of organising the annual seminars / webinars and I’ll provide more information when the line up is confirmed. For now though, the dates will be weekends in January / February.

Keep tuned!

2022 Training

Training starts on Saturday 30th April. We’ll be going ‘on tour’ one Saturday each month so that swimmers are better prepared for the variety of conditions that can be experienced on the big day. There’s a world of difference between a force 3 in a protected harbour and a force 3 in a more exposed environment. That said, we will always make these sessions weather dependent and will choose our locations based on the weather.

2022 Dover Intensity Week

Due to popular demand, this is set for 6th-10th June 2022. Save the date!
